Organisation Outline:
The Commission for Architecture & the Built Environment (CABE) was created in September 1999 as the champion for architecture in England. Its function is to promote high standards in the design of buildings and the spaces between them, and to help and offer advice to all those who create, manage and use the built environment.
CABE provides an independent voice to stimulate debate and promote the very best of architecture and urban design. It uses its skills and resources to work for a higher quality of life for people and communities across England, with particular concern for those living in deprived areas. It achieves this by making the case for change, gathering hard evidence, providing education opportunities and through direct help on individual programmes and projects.
CABE works through seven programmes: design review; project enabling; public affairs and government; the regions; research; education; and CABE Space. Sponsored by DCMS, it is jointly funded by DCMS and ODPM.
