Long description: Life Cycle Thinking (LCT) and Assessment (LCA) are vital tools for successful businesses and public authorities in the drive towards sustainable consumption and production. It helps decision makers to take into account all the resources consumed and environmental impacts associated with the supply, use, and end-of-life of goods and services (products). This provides a fair basis for product comparisons, to effectively identify options for improvements, and to monitor progress in environmental performance. The European Commission’s Joint Research Centre is supporting the development of international approaches, indicators, reference data, and pilot studies to assist this process. The aim is to increase the awareness and use of LCA through scientific robustness, quality-assurance and consensus building.
