Short description: The purpose of the project was to evaluate the technical and cost performance of the biostimulation and bioaugmentation technology when applied to dense, nonaqueous-phase liquid (DNAPL) contaminants in the saturated zone. This demonstration was conducted at Launch Complex 34, Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida, where chlorinated volatile organic compounds (CVOCs), mainly trichloroethylene (TCE), are present in the subsurface as DNAPL. Smaller amounts of cis-1,2-dichloroethylene (DCE) and vinyl chloride (VC) also are present as a result of the natural degradation of TCE. The part of the source zone used as a test plot for the demonstration is entirely underneath the Engineering Support Building.
