Short description: Construction and demolition is the single largest UK waste stream, and includes over 20% of all hazardous waste and 20% of fly-tipped waste. Waste accounts for up to 5% of construction project value. This has lead to the construction industry paying an estimated £200 million per year in landfill tax, which will rise with further tax increases and planned construction activity over the next 14 years. This, together with a host of additional legislative requirements, means the issue of waste is likely to rise in importance to all those in the construction sector. This website aims to provide a ‘one-stop shop’ web-based resource for all aspects of construction waste, by keeping the construction industry informed of industry and construction waste related policy, events, news and publications. This information can be accessed by selecting the relevant heading from the toolbar on the left hand side of this page. In addition, this site also contains an Information Database feature. Within this, you will find detailed information relevant to the construction industry, such as details on Research Organisations, legislation that affects the industry, tips on how to reduce waste, details of trade bodies and professional organisations and issues relating to construction waste categorised by waste type, project type and organisation type. The Data section provides information on a range of data sources which have been gathered to investigate the extent and availability of data and statistics relating to the construction industry and resource efficiency.
