Short description: A new environmental permitting system (the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations) come into force in April 2008. This introduction leaflet explains what the new system is and what changes it will involve, who it affects, the role of the regulator and sources of further information 
Long description: The new Environmental Permitting system will be a streamlined combination of the Waste MAnagement Licensing Regulations and Pollution Prevention and Control legislation. Core aims of the EP system will be to maintain environmental protection whilst simplifying and clarifying the regulatory burden on both operators and regulators. This document outlines the types of activity requiring a permit and the implications for operators of such facilities. The EP regime is subject to consultation until June 2007
