Pesticide tombs constitute an important source of persistent toxic substances that may spread over significant distances. One such tombs is located in the Community of Ostróda on the outskirts of Warlity Wielkie village - 750 meters from a portable water intake, within Szeląg Wielki Lake basin, 800 m from the shoreline line and several hundred meters from a fishpond of Warlity Wielkie Fishing Farm. The pesticide disposal site is located on idle land on the site of an abandoned aggregate quarry. It has a fenced and signed area of 0.1 ha. Next to the pesticide tomb, an animal burial ground is situated. This ground is not protected against trespassing The animal burial site has nine 800 -1500 mm diameter concrete circle wells, 3 meters deep, and covered with concrete lids that are banked with earth. Over the years 1972 -1986, ca. 9.5 tones of overdue pesticides, packages and chemical were deposited in the pesticide tomb.
