Short description: This report describes and presents the rationale underlying the Critical Water Requirement (CWR) Analysis now being undertaken in the Hérault Basin. It explains how the Critical Water Requirement Analysis is designed to meet the requirements and specifications of the SCAPT model and make best use of available data. Critical Water Requirements are presented for each of the major SCAPT Land Use categories in each of the three main geographic regions: a) lower pediment and alluvial areas b) mountains, and c) karst. Within each of these regions the critical water requirements for the major crops that make up the land use types are described. Specific information is given so that the relative importance of the amount and timing of water received by different plants can be evaluated. It is hoped that this information will enable the reader to appreciate both the risk and impact of water shortages at critical moments. The key question from the perspectives of SCAPT is whether or not this change will lead to a grid cell being allocated a different land use by the model.
