The Environment Agency has published an update on its contaminated land activities. This reviews progress in implementing Part IIA of the Environmental Protection
<20% of the contaminated sites so far identified as “contaminated land” under the provisions of Act have been remediated. The cost of this work has been ~ £21
million, mostly met by the Public Sector. However, there is a large market in contaminated site management led by Private Sector needs (e.g. site redevelopment)
estimated to be worth £1 billion a year in the UK which is outside the Part IIA regime.
