Update on Contaminated Land from the Environment
Agency (England and Wales, UK)
The Environment Agency has published an update on its contaminated land activities. This reviews progress in implementing Part IIA of the Environmental Protection
Act 1990. <20% of the contaminated sites so far identified as “contaminated land” under the provisions of Act have been remediated. The cost of this work has been ~ £21
million, mostly met by the Public Sector. However, there is a large market in contaminated site management led by Private Sector needs (e.g. site redevelopment)
estimated to be worth £1 billion a year in the UK which is outside the Part IIA regime. Link: http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/com ...
