Draft Directive sets limits for 33 chemical pollutants
prioritised under the Water Framework Directive
The proposed Directive on environmental quality standards in water policy is the final major piece of legislation needed to support the Water Framework Directive 
(WFD). Limits are set for 33 chemical pollutants listed by the Water FD, along with limits for 8 substances covered by earlier legislation that will be repealed. The substances include metals, pesticides, biocides, industrial chemicals, pollutants such as polyaromatic hydrocarbons and the flame retardant penta-BDE.
