New proposals to slash red tape while continuing to protect human health and the environment have been published by Defra, the Welsh Assembly Government
and the Environment Agency today.
The consultation proposes to combine two major environmental systems – the Pollution Prevention and Control System and the Waste Management Licensing
Defra estimates that a single streamlined permitting system will yield administrative savings of approximately £70 million over 10 years for industry
and regulators, with potential for additional economic benefits.
