Abstract:

Barriers and drivers for the uptake of environmental technologies are
described in depth, both in general terms by looking at regulation,
economics, markets, social pressure, attitudes, technological and
organisational capabilities but also in an industry specific context by
analysing sectors and cross sectoral issues like eco-design,
product-services, biotechnology, waste management, pulp and paper,
cement, steel, non-ferrous metals, plastics, refineries, construction
and mining. These sectors are furthermore analysed in terms of main
environmental problems, current processes and examples of possible
environmental technologies are given. The special conditions for SMEs
are highlighted. In the end, policy measures are considered.
