Project objectives:
To design, improve and validate conceptual and instrumental tools needed for risk assessment related to the contamination of soil and subsoil by VOC mixtures
from wastes and accidents
Project Summary:
The project used a novel measuring technology developed by one of the project partners, which allowed continuous in-situ measurement of the transfer potential
of VOCs in soil, subsoil, the unsaturated zonegas phase and saturated zone groundwater. The method used a permeation cell, separating an internal gas-phase
from the media being observed, in combination with a continuous global VOC sensor to provide a fingerprint of VOC contamination in the media studied. Subsequent
work applied a model to the to the data an developed new procedures for field monitoring.
