Hydrogeology
The study of the geological factors relating to the Earth's
waters.
Hydrogeology is a scientific discipline that encompasses
all aspects of the physical and chemical interaction of
groundwater with soil and rock within the subsurface. For
the purposes of EUGRIS this page and the further description
deals with the physical movement of groundwater and interactions
with surface waters. It is restricted to physical processes
rather than the chemical and microbiological aspects of
groundwater.

Whilst the scientific and mathematical basis of groundwater
flow are well understood there are a number of current areas
of interesting research, most notably surface water and
groundwater interactions within the hyporheic zone and
recharge mechanisms.

The further description provides more detail on this
and links to relevant guidance and research.
