Risk management is an approach to decision making for historically
contaminated sites where the need for action, and the nature
of any possible actions, is decided on the basis of risk assessment.
An evaluation of the national policy and an analysis of experience
feedback from the use of the methodological tools highlighted
the need for several modifications and clarifications.
Pursuant to the principles of the risk-management-according-to-use
policy and taking into consideration the possibilities
for acting on uses and on the state of the media, two additional
management tools were proposed: Media Quality Assessment
(MQA) and the Management Plan. These tools are supplemented
by Residual Risk Analysis (RRA).
This new methodology aims to replace the current methodology,
which has been used since 1995.
