Risk assessment France
Risk assessment provides an objective, technical evaluation
of the likelihood of unacceptable impacts to human health
and the environment. The purpose is to assess the need for
protective measures, since a specific risk assessment
is a precondition for any such protective measures.
As in many other countries, the French contaminated land
management approach is based on risk management. The French
policy of management according to use is based on a specific
risk assessment method. This policy aims to reduce risk
to an acceptable level for the local population and for the
environment. New regulations went into effect in 2007.
As a result of the application of existing regulations and
feedback from more than 10 years of risk management experience,
new methodological tools were developed – Media Quality
Management (MQA), the Management Plan and Residual Risk
Analysis (RRA).
