Organisation Outline:
The Centre for Geo-Informastion Studies is the successor to the Geographical Information Systems (GIS) work of the School of Surveying, University of East
London. Building on the success of that work, the Centre was created in 2001 and specialises in all aspects of geo-informaiton science, systems and engineering.
Its remit is to work in diverse partnerships both internal and external to the University in all aspects of endeavour where geo-information has a role. Key research themes are GIS and environmental modelling, spatial data quality, data mining and location-based services. 'Environmental modelling' is
interpreted broadly as empirical, A1 or computational process models of any aspect of the physical, biological, social or economic environment that can be
coupled woth GIS and other geocomputational tools. Research projects include diverse areas such as the implications of data quality on oil spill modelling and improved methods of topographic description
for hydrological models.
